Zimbabwe parliament delayed over speaker vote

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) - Officials say Zimbabwe's legislature won't reconvene until a new speaker is elected, the latest dispute pushing the fragile coalition government toward collapse.

Zimbabwe's Supreme Court ordered the parliament speaker to step down earlier this month, saying his election to the post violated parliamentary rules.

But Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's party says the court is biased toward longtime President Robert Mugabe.

The two leaders entered into an unlikely power-sharing agreement following disputed, violence-marred elections in 2008. The parliament speaker ordered to step down is a member of the longtime opposition party.

Clerk of Parliament Austin Zvoma said the vote for a new speaker was postponed Tuesday over outstanding legal issues.
